When is RO the right choice?

RO operates at the molecular level — it removes PFAS above EPA limits, nitrates, arsenic, radium, and uranium that carbon filters cannot address. It is the only practical single-system consumer solution for multi-contaminant profiles involving these substances.

An under-sink point-of-use RO unit is practical and cost-effective for most households. Whole-house RO is unnecessary for municipal water — and expensive to maintain.

Our bundling policy: Every RO system we recommend includes remineralization and UV as integral stages — either built-in or as confirmed compatible add-ons. We do not recommend base RO-only systems without these stages.
Important — fluoride and RO: RO removes approximately 85–92% of fluoride from tap water. If your municipality actively fluoridates its water, standard remineralization cartridges do not restore fluoride. We strongly recommend consulting your dentist about fluoride supplementation if you install RO in a fluoridated municipality. Fluoride toothpaste is a practical minimum step.
Renting or can't install under-sink? Countertop RO systems require no installation and no plumber — they connect to your faucet or sit independently. We've flagged countertop-compatible models below. Countertop
